My grandmother is descendent of Yoruba slaves and Brazilian natives. In early 2019, I set out to seek the nostalgia that propelled my grandmother’s family to leave Bahia, Brazil, cast off their Brazilian names, and journey to Africa.
This sentiment has a special word in Brazil — saudade.
